New guidelines presented in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism favours empirical vitamin D supplementation to improve health outcomes over dietary reference intake. The study found, for example, that for pregnant women the dosage can range between 600 IU and 5,000 IU per day, while people aged over 70 should be taking 800 IU daily.
