Glucose metabolism in diabetic pregnancies

02 Jun 2010

Colomiere et al. have used western blotting and quantitative reverse transcription PCR to profile the insulin-signaling pathway in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus. Diabetes and obesity in pregnancy were found to cause defects in insulin-signaling pathways in adipose tissue and skeletal muscle. The authors conclude that long-term studies on maternal tissue after pregnancy would be useful in assessing the future risk of T2DM. Colomiere, M et al. (2010) Journal of Molecular Endocrinology 44.
