“I had a great time, this is a really excellent way to engage young people early” SfE BES 2019 volunteer
You can help bring endocrinology to life for some local schoolchildren while you’re at SfE BES 2022.Spare some time to volunteer at our schools outreach event on Wednesday 16 November and you can inspire local school groups with the value and importance of science and medicine.
The sessions will run from 11:30am-3pm, and with support from your Society team, you could help deliver a 15-20 minute activity, or take part in our careers panel.
Activities
Placenta lino printing
Devised by researchers from the University of Leeds, this activity is about the role of the placenta in foetal growth, and how it is affected by diabetes
What’s the diagnosis?
A team of doctors will guide students through a real-life training exercise that takes samples and assesses a patient to diagnose their condition.
Investigating diabetes
In this activity the biology and influence of nature vs nurture in type 2 diabetes will be explained
Are you talking to me?
This activity will dip into pharmacology and help explain the intricacies of cell signalling and the consequences when things go wrong!
Careers Panel with Q&A
Clinical, scientific and nurse endocrinologists from all walks of life will talk about their work and career journeys
