Johnson and colleagues examined whether a whole-grain crispbread (CB) low-fructose, low-calorie diet (LCD) might be superior to a traditional LCD based on fructose-rich liquid meal replacements (LMRs) with respect to improvement of various cardiometabolic risk factors and reproductive hormones in morbidly obese women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). No significant differences in the effects of the two LCD diets on metabolic or reproductive variables were demonstrated.
