For the record: Can magnets reduce the symptoms of menopause?

On 20 February 2011 the Society for Endocrinology worked with the science media charity Sense About Science to respond to a story published in the Sunday Times (a link to the article, which is behind a pay-wall, can be found at the Sense About Science website alongside the response).

The story described a clinical trial on the use of magnets in the treatment of menopausal symptoms. The article reported that the magnets correct imbalances in the autonomic nervous system. Professor Saffron Whitehead (St George's University of London) submitted a response on behalf of the Society for Endocrinology by outlining the nature of menopausal symptoms.
