European Journal of Endocrinology Prize Lecture - 18:45, Main Hall

24 Apr 2012

The European Journal of Endocrinology Prize is awarded to a candidate who has significantly contributed to the advancement of knowledge in the field of endocrinology through publication and that is certainly true of this year’s prize recipient Professor Sadaf Farooqi (UK).

As a Wellcome Trust Senior Clinical Fellow at the Institute of Metabolic Science at the University of Cambridge, Professor Farooqi co-ordinates a programme of research into the genetic, molecular and physiological basis of human obesity and has authored numerous publications in this field. She identified the first single gene defect to cause human obesity in patients with a mutation in the leptin gene and described their dramatic response to leptin therapy, establishing leptin’s role in the regulation of eating behaviour, puberty and immune function. Join Professor Farooqi for her much anticipated EJE prize lecture entitled ‘Tackling obesity: lessons from genetics’ – it’s one not to be missed. The session will be chaired by Professor Hans Romijn, Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Endocrinology.

The abstract that accompanies this presentation can be viewed on Endocrine Abstracts.
