ESPE Winter School aims to cover all main topics in paediatric endocrinology and diabetes in the course of an intensive 5 day and 6 night teaching event. The host country is usually, but not always, in Eastern Europe. The course comprises interactive lectures in paediatric endocrinology, research seminars, small group teaching, and student case/research rehearsals/presentations. Normally there are 5 faculty members, who are joined by the host coordinator for the year in question, and the host coordinator for the forthcoming year, making 7 teachers in all. The 25 ‘students’ whose ages usually range from 25-35 years, must have a genuine interest in paediatric endocrine training and a reasonable command of written and spoken English.
The ESPE member who joins the faculty will be asked to give 4-5 lectures lasting 45 minutes, and to present ‘teachers’ cases’ to small groups. The faculty members mentor about 4 students each prior to the meeting so that the students’ case presentations and research proposals can be in an advanced stage by the time Winter School begins. ESPE Winter School is a lot of work both before and during, and involves being away from home and institution for a week. But it is also hugely enjoyable!
Interested applicants should write to the ESPE Secretariat at: [email protected] by the deadline of 30 April 2013, attaching their CV and specifying their interests in terms of clinical and research topics. Applicants are advised to view the most recent programme for Winter School 2013 in Rzeszów, Poland, please see the following link to view the programme.
