ERK 1/2 in hypothalamic glucose sensing

24 Sept 2015

Hypothalamic glucose-sensing neurons regulate the expression of the key metabolic homeostasis genes POMC, AgRP, and NPY. AMP-activated protein kinase is a possible molecular mediator, but whether other signalling mediators are involved is not clear. Zhang and colleagues  investigated the role of ERK1/2; their results are indicative of a novel role of ERK1/2 in glucose-regulated POMC expression and offer new mechanistic insight into hypothalamic glucose sensing.
