There is a great amount of
in vitro data regarding the expression of estrogen receptor α (ERα) and ERβ in many cancers, including thyroid cancer. Data regarding AR involvement is less abundant. Magri and colleagues investigate whether ER and AR expression leads to a more aggressive phenotype
in vivo, finding that ERα and AR expression are positively associated with an aggressive phenotype, while ERβ is negatively associated with an aggressive phenotype
in vivo. This pattern of expression could be used as a tool to identify high-risk patients. Magri et al. (2012)
