Consumer member required for the NCRI Board Sub-Group

12 Nov 2007

The National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) is a partnership between government, charity and industry which exists to promote co-operation and to maximise the benefit to patients and public from cancer research. NCRI recognises the importance of involving patients, carers and others affected by cancer. We are currently looking for consumer members to join our Board Sub-Group (BSG). The BSG functions to assist NCRI in its strategic oversight of clinical and translational cancer research. Clinical research involves trials of new treatments on a national scale, while translational research covers the earlier stages of developing new drugs based on innovative research in the laboratory, and then first studies in small numbers of patients. The BSG also provides a forum that links together and promotes collaboration between the clinical and translational research networks and NCRI initiatives in informatics and cancer biobanking. We would like to increase the diversity of our consumer representation. We welcome applications from consumers based throughout the UK, from all ethnic groups, all age groups, and from people with experience of all kinds of cancer. We offer an attendance fee for meetings, expenses, training and support to get you up to speed with the issues being discussed. You can download the Role Profile and Application Form from the website at www.ncri.org.uk. Alternatively, please contact the NCRI Secretariat (tel: 020 7061 8460, email: [email protected]). Deadline for return of applications is: 17 December 2007. Interviews will be held in London during January / February 2008.
