The appointment will be full time on UCL grade CL7. The salary range will be £33,798 - £42,106 per annum (inclusive of London allowance).
This post is based in the Prenatal Cell and Gene Therapy Group at UCL Institute for Women's Health working under the supervision of Dr Anna David, Reader/Associate Professor in Obstetrics and Maternal Fetal Medicine. The postholder will work on a European Union funded project translating a novel treatment for fetal growth restriction using VEGF gene therapy into clinical use.
The postholder will be responsible for prospective data and sample collection from pregnancies complicated by severe fetal growth restriction at the participating EU fetal medicine centres with some tissue analysis. They will assist with developing the clinical trial protocol and with a bioethics study on the acceptability of prenatal gene therapy. There is funding for 3 years in the first instance.
The successful post holder will be a highly organised individual who is flexible and can work well in a diverse team of researchers across several sites in the UK and EU. You will receive training in detailed fetal ultrasound at the Fetal Medicine Unit, University College London Hospital (UCLH) where you will be awarded an Honorary NHS Contract. You will become expert in developing clinical trials in obstetrics including negotiating regulatory and ethical aspects. You will join a team of clinicians, scientists and students working in this novel area of research. You will be responsible for the daily running of the project including some laboratory work. You will have the opportunity to apply to take a PhD at UCL.
You must have a medical degree or equivalent and a strong interest in obstetrics research. Fluency in spoken and written English is essential. Basic obstetric ultrasound skills are essential and experience in aspects of laboratory management and research would be desirable.
