Two exciting opportunities have arisen for individuals to contribute towards the provision of excellent patient care within our Endocrinology and Diabetes Service. We are looking to appointment two Senior Clinical Nurse Specialists in Endocrinology. One post will be for our Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospital site (HGS) and the other for our Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham(QEHB) site. Successful candidates will join a team of experienced specialist nurses in a tertiary endocrine referral centre and will be given full structured training and supervision to develop their skills in endocrinology.

The Endocrine Services at both sites (HGS and QEHB) have close links with Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Birmingham Women’s Hospital. The clinical nurse specialist (CNS) team works in close collaboration with endocrine consultants, endocrine surgeons, neurosurgeons, oncologists, paediatricians, obstetricians, gynaecologists, rheumatologists, renal clinicians and other clinical nurse specialists within the Trust. The service centres around a busy outpatient department located at both sites. The post holders will play a key role in developing the endocrine service including nurse-led clinics and supporting other areas of endocrinology including day case and in-patient activities. Successful candidates will be expected to perform autonomously both in clinic and ward environment running nurse-led clinics, patient/staff education and performing dynamic function testing and other specialist screening/investigations/procedures for endocrine patients.

Applicants must be registered with the NMC, educated to at least degree level with recognised academic/training qualification in endocrinology. Applicants who are completing their Endocrine Certification Training from the Society for Endocrinology will be considered provided that evidence of training and portfolio are provided during the interview. A highly motivated nurse with good leadership and managerial skills will be required to fill this post. Applicants with proven experience at Band 6 level in acute care setting will be considered for this post. Applicants must have a nurse prescribing qualification and should be practicing as a nurse prescriber for at least 1 year. Cannulation, venepuncture, intravenous therapy, ECG skills, ability to carry out holistic needs assessment, competency in performing dynamic function tests and experience in setting up peer group support are essential for this post.
