Clinical guidance on disorders of sex development

06 Jul 2011

Ahmed and colleagues have published UK guidelines on the initial evaluation of infants or adolescents with a suspected disorder of sex development (DSD), with support from the Society for Endocrinology. The guidelines offer advice on who to investigate, how to assess patients, and included characteristics of DSDs. The group stress that a multidisciplinary team is required to achieve a management plan, anticipate future problems, and provide the patient with all necessary information and psychological care; outlines of the roles of team members are listed. Clinicians are also advised to share information via national and international research collaborations, particularly in the case of rare conditions. Ahmed et al.
