British Ecological Society: Policy and External Affairs Manager

The British Ecological Society is an active and successful scientific society. Supported by our 4000 members, we aim to advance ecology and make it count. Our activities cover publishing, conferences, policy, education, grants and membership. We have created the new post of Policy and External Affairs Manager to continue to develop the exciting and innovative policy work of the BES and to develop the work of the external affairs team. Working closely with the Executive Secretary and the Public & Policy Committee you will further develop the position of the BES as a major voice on issues concerning ecology with policy makers in administrations and governments of all the countries in the UK. You will lead the external affairs team to improve impact and coordination across a wide range of activities and enhance the Society's interface with the wider community. You will have significant experience of influencing policy in the UK. You will have experience of developing and leading high performance teams. You will demonstrate the ability to plan strategically and deliver high impact initiatives. You will be an outstanding communicator with an understanding of the issues facing the science of ecology. Well organised, you will have a creative approach. The position is based at our office in Putney, London. Excellent benefits include a starting salary circa £47,000, contributory pension scheme and interest free travel loan. The post is fulltime and permanent.
