Bringing endocrinology to the British Science Festival

25 Aug 2016

The Society for Endocrinology is sponsoring two events at this year's British Science Festival in Swansea, Wales:

Social egg freezing: motherhood on ice?

Egg freezing is a new technology increasingly touted as a game-changer for women wanting to delay motherhood. How does it work and what are the social implications of the procedure? Join Channa Jayasena, Sue Avery and Kylie Baldwin to debate these questions.

This is the Biological Sciences Section Presidential Address. There will be a drinks reception hosted by the Section at 19.00 on the Wallace Landing.

The fat controller

With nearly 30% of the world’s population being overweight, ‘diabesity’ is a growing problem: diabetes, brought on by obesity, which in turn causes brain, heart, nerve and kidney damage. But could we prevent it? Join science broadcaster Emily Grossman in conversation with her father Ashley Grossman, professor of endocrinology, as they discuss potential ground-breaking medical techniques to lose weight effortlessly and what it may mean for our future.
