Are you a scientist affected by Austerity in Europe - have your say!

22 Apr 2013

The Euroscientist, the journal of Euroscience, is the first pan-European online magazine focussing on science in society, science policy, funding, innovation and careers for scientists, by scientists.

Austerity is taking its toll and disturbing research cycles across Europe. This Special Issue focusses on how scientists from Southern Europe have confronted the problem and offers scientists the opportunity to share their own solutions to the current situation.

In this issue, the Euroscientist analyses how many colleagues working in labs in Spain, Italy, Portugal and Greece have been forced to emigrate and reports on those who decided to stay. Researchers share their experiences of navigating the troubled waters of recession in an attempt to maintain a seemingly steady research career path.

The goal of this special issue is: to focus the wider European science community’s attention on how to solve research issues across Europe. What is your opinion as a practising scientist? Where does the system need to be fixed? Does the fundamental basis of research in Europe need to be revisited; its objectives; its funding schemes? Can new ways be found of ring-fencing scientists’ time for research?
