A study on glucagonoma

09 May 2011

Glucagonoma, a rare glucagon-secreting pancreatic neuroendocrine tumour, often presents with glucagonoma syndrome, the symptoms including weight loss, necrotizing migratory erythema, and diabetes. Differing from similar studies, Eldor and colleagues of the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center studied six patients over 25 years, all of whom had both the glucagon-secreting tumour and full-blown glucagonoma syndrome. They present their thorough findings on patient presentation, tumour characteristics and therapeutic modalities, including treatment with somatostatin analogues which controlled symptoms of all patients. Notably, peptide radioligand receptor therapy emerged as a promising therapeutic option. Eldor et al. (2011) Clinical Endocrinology 74 593–598.
